  1. Pupusas the national dish. Which is like a tortilla only stuffed with meat, cheese, loroco, beans, or cheese and beans.

    Pasteles which is started as a tortilla and if stuffed with meat and made into a semi circle type shape.

    Finnaly, Platanos con frijoles y crema which is fried plantain whith beans and cream.


  2. Pupusa is their most famous "dish". Its just a thick tortilla filled with things like cheese, chicharron, ect. Not really a dish.

    Sopa de Pata (Feet Soup) is made made particularly during religious festival. Its soup made with cows feet and tripe (cow intestines).

    Yuca Frita con Chicharrón is another popular dish. Chicharrón are pork rinds and Yuca is cassa, a vegetable that is popular all throughout Latin America;  "Frita" just means the yuca was fried, so its crunchy on the outside and stays soft in the middle. This dish is popular in all of Central America but only El Salvador frys the yuca, the other countries simply boil it to make it soft and then serve it.

    Tamales are also popular in El Salvador. Tamales de Elote (Corn Tamales) are serve with sour cream. Tamales come with a variety of ingridients as well, like chicken, pork, black beans (tamales pisques), yucca flowers (tamales de flor de izote), and chipilín leaves (ticucos).

  3. For breakfast, Salvadorans usually eat platos típicos (national dishes), which commonly include mashed beans, sour cream, eggs, Salvadoran tortillas, cheese, fried plantains, rice and coffee. Huevos picados are scrambled eggs mixed with vegetables. They also eat just coffee and French bread.

    Gallo en chicha is a soup made with rooster in fermented corn liquid, flavored with raisins and sometimes other things.

    Salvadoran dessert usually consists of Pan Dulce, Zemita, Salvadoran style Quesadilla, Torta de Yema, Marquezote, Salporas, Poleada (vanilla custard), Arroz en Leche (rice pudding), Atol de Elote, Atol de Piña etc. etc. The dulce de leche of El Salvador has a soft, crumbly texture, with an almost crystallized form. Fruits are widely consumed, the more popular being mangoes, papayas and bananas. Empanadas de Platano (banana patties) are also popular desserts.
