I have 3 rooms..

6x3m

4x3m

3x3m

I need them all painted (2 coats) but no ceiling painting required. Skirting boards are also needed to be painted. No windows need painting just walls. I will supply the paint.

How much would this cost please for a decent decorator, and how long would it take?

  1. It depends who you get in to do it and how slow/quick they are and how good a job they do, which takes time.

There are alsorts of chancers out there painting and charging alsorts of different rates and with different levels of knowledge.  So with that in mind you might get prices based on anything from £40 to £200 per day.  There's no prizes for guessing who the trained decorators are and who was selling ice cream the week before.

A time served city and guilds trained decorator is going to cost you between £100-£150 per day.  He'll be between three and ten times faster than the cheap person and know how to do a proper job that will last longer.  You take your choice really.

It will be cheaper if all the rooms can be done simultaneously, if they are empty etc.  Depending on their condition, how much preparation you want etc. Without seeing them, it is up or down a little from 5 days work.

  2. I'd say your best answer has come from Taf. Im time served, and charge £120 - £140 per day labour only. To get me up London would cost you £150 a day !

  3. YOU

    3 DAYS

    NOTHING

  4. Check out www.npda.co.uk.

Its the national property developers association so I'm sure someone there will be able to advise you.

You can become a member (for free) and ask in the forum.

    Hope this helps!!

  5. My son, who is in the trade, says that £120 a room is the going rate if you go to a company.

Someone doing it as a homer would probably charge £200-250ish for the whole job

Therefore use that as your negotiating base.

  6. The going rate for a good decorator is £100 - £150 a day.  Try http://www.dulux.co.uk/advice/decorators...  Dulux have their own network of approved decorators that all guarantee their work.

  7. A decent tradesperson will need at least £150 a day + £30-£50 if he has an apprentice
