  1. Assalamu Alaikum,

In the olden times Sufism was a reality without a name but it has become a name without the reality. Sufism was first meant to focus on the qualities of a believer than quantity. It was a state then a label. They say the first of Sufi was Imam Hasanul Basari (R.A). So if you meant the Sufism to be the way of Zuhd, love and piety which is a way of Rasulullah (s.a.w)  who prayed Tahajjud till his legs were swollen. The way of Abubakar (r.a) who said, I wish I were hair or a tree to be cut so that I have no hisaab in the hereafter, lots of crying and little laughters, the way of Omar (r.a) who was late for Minbar because he has only single dress that too with 12 patches. Who ate little even when Dunya came before him. The way of Uthman (r.a) who used to complete the whole of Quran in one single Rakaah and spent much of his wealth for Islam. The way of Ali (r.a) who divorced the Dunya for Akhirath, The way of Abu Dardaa (r.a) who said, the Most I fear about is the day when Allah will ask me 'What have you acted according to your knowledge'. Then Hasanul Basri (r.a), Umar bin Abdul Azeez (r.a),  Saeed ibn Musayyab for 40 years never missed any of the days Jamaah prayer in Masjid. Then comes the scholars who some of them stood up the whole of nights in prayers for years. Imam Abu Haneefa (r.a) used to pray Fajr with the Wudoo of Isha, Imam Shafi (r.a) who used to complete 60 Khatms in Ramdhan.  Imam Ahmed ibn Hanbal (r.a), the Imam  Ahlu Sunna, who was tortured greatly for his stance on truth. Then Sufyanu Thauree (r.a), his student Ibrahim bin Adham, Abu Muslim al Khaulani,  Shaqeeq Al Balqi and so on of numerous Zahids and pious of Islamic history...May Allah have mercy on all of them.. If the way you follow is of their's you are lucky. On the other side if you meant Sufism to be spacial rituals which are not in Shareeah, the musics and the dance, those who are heedless of prayer and engage in Zikr and not act according to Sunnah... They are far deviated from what's truth.

So what I learned is what's in a name Soofi or Salafi. By name men are not good or bad. It is what men believe and what they practice. Again Sufism was a reality without a name and now it's a name without reality. Nowadays hardly you would find any on the ways of those pious Salaf. The people who claim to be Sufis are more greedy of Dunya than others... I believe it's because of our forsaking those core qualities in the Salaf Saliheen, we run back after Dunya like any others. But there are many in the Ummah who preach and who practice upon and those who have the qualities of true believers.

    Allah knows best.

  4. Wow! I don't know if it's true or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. Sufis are nearly as contorted as the Qadyanis.
