  1. I just got back from Mexico on Wednesday & it was our 8th time staying there.

For shopping I would do La Isla shopping plaza and the local flea market. At the La Isla shopping plaza they have an aquarium where you can swim with the dolphins or go in to a tank and feed the sharks.

If your looking for a nice meal there is a Ruth Chris steak house & an Argentinean Steak House that are both amazing.

Cancun has awesome tours to choose from. I am sure you can look each one up on line but here they are:

    Chichen Itza tour

    Captain Hook Dinner Cruise

    Deep Sea Fishing

Isla Mujeres day or night cruise

    Jungle Tour

    Tulum

    Xcaret

    Xel-Ha

There are a ton of things to choose from though & there will be some one in the lobby of your hotel to go over each one and costs.

If you like going for bars or clubs there is Senor Frogs & Coco Bongo... those are the 2 best. If you do open bar it costs $40. Your best value is to do a Party Hopper tour. This typically costs around $65 a piece and will get you in to Senor Frogs, Coco Bongo, Daddy O's, and Daddy Rock. The costs include entrance to the club and drinks. It does not include tips.

When making purchases there do not buy any liquor or liquid (hot sauce, vanilla) unless it is from the duty free shop in the airport. They will not let you carry it on... they confiscated it from the people in front of us.... and they are VERY rough with the baggage so there is a good chance it will break in your suitcase. You can buy it at a good bargain at the airport and each person is allowed to bring back two bottles.

Hope you have a great trip!!

  2. JW Marriott is a wonderful hotel. You will have a great time. Go to this site and you can read reviews and see  candid photos posted by visitors. JW is rated #2 on trip advisor.

http://www.tripadvisor.com   click on Mexico, than Cancun.

On the left hand side of page click on your hotel.

October is still hurricane season but I would not worry. Hopefully you have some travel insurance to cover you in the event of a storm.

Actually September is the most active hurricane month.

The hotel is located right in the middle of the hotel zone. You can catch a bus right outside and travel any where to shop. Very inexpensive way to travel $.65 cent a person. Bring some small bills for bus fare, tipping and small purchases.

Good dining at La Dolce Vita across the street. Argentine Steak House next door at Casa Magna.

    check out. http://www.cancun.com

    Congratulation and have fun

  3. My husband I got married in cancun & have visited more than 8 times I love it.  The weather in cancun is always crazy.  one day sunny & other lots of rain.  I have never been in oct to nov.  i have been in dec.  Weather usually around mid 80's close to 87, but i don't think it never got to mid 90's.  Places to go will depend on what you & your wife want to do.  We always do the Mayan ruins (a must do).  Chichen Itza Ruins it's an all day event usually from 8:00 Am to 5PM.  make sure you take sunblock and mosquito oitment & a umbrella for shade.  If you like to snorkle then do Xcaret.  It's also a all day event, but many things to do.  Underground or above ground river. Snorkling and night show.  Costs around 75 to 80 dollars but worth it visit the website for pics www.xcaret.com.  you also have tulum & xel-ha.  Isla mujeres is nice, you depart cancun and it's about 1 hr away, they serve drinks and you have lunch in the island.  you have time to visit the island, shop eat relax on the beach etc.  We did cozumel for the snorkling and hated it.  unless they gave us a cheap tour, we found the island to be very boring.  I prefer isla mujeres.  Playa del carmen is also boring,  nothing to do but shop and very small.  you will actually visit playa del carmen if you go to cozumel.  the boat departs from playa del carmen.  They also have the Jungle tours for snorkling which i did about 3 times. only a couple of hours ( i like it).  but then i found out that they have crocs on the lagoon side!!!!  make sure you ask about the crocs on the lagoon and becareful when walking near the lagoon side.  they say the crocs are at the end of the strip, but back in 2002 or 2003 one croc walked into the Caracol Mall, which is located in the center of the strip.  after that news i never did the jungle tour again or walk near the lagoon side.  Cancun has many great places to visit it just all depends on what you like.  As for shopping if you do the chichen itza tour they do take you to a shopping area (those prices are cheaper than cancun, so if you find something you like buy it there, chances are they will not have the same item in cancun).  We always do our shopping in the Centro, many buses go to the centro just ask the local people and they will tell you where to go.  The markets on the strip are more expensive and they dont really go down on price.  and for nightlife the whole strip is nightlife all the clubs, bars and places to eat are within walking distance.  Vist websites for places to visit just to get an idea of what to do.  Tripadvisor or yahoo travel.  these are the places we love to visit, but they may not be for you.  Chichen Itza, Tulum & Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Isla Mujeres.  Dont do these everyday, they are all day tours and you will get tierd.  we did them every other day.  the rest we just enjoyed the beach from our hotel and pool.  Have fun and don't let the weather ruin your vacation.  For our wedding it rained all week, but not all day.  The wedding day we had rain around 7am then sunny all day (we were almost late because we were all in the beach and pool of the hotel and lost tract of time.  then it rained around 6pm. (the wedding was at 6pm) i felt sad becuase we had it indoor instead of outdoor on the beach, but we had a nice area with glass windows to see the beach.   I prefer rain near a beach than being in chicago, IL with bad weather all year long.  I hope you have a nice time and enjoy cancun mexico.  I am sure you & your wife will love it.  I can't wait to go back.  but the best time to go is in late april to july (ver hot and mostly sunny)  I hope they will have the x-mas lights up during that time, very nice to see.

  4. Try www.cancun.bz/cancunweather. for weather reports.

  5. I've heard that the hotel is great - we didn't stay there, but we considered it.  We found an all-inclusive deal that looked better to us.

Anyway, that hotel is very convenient to the shopping areas.  There is a flea-market style mall (just little shops) where Margaritaville is and another one right across the street from the Hard Rock.  Both have little booths where you can shop and negotiate the prices.  There was also an outdoor market near the McD's, but I can't remember anything more about that location.  We got some great deals at all the places.

There are clubs all over the strip - CoCo Bongos is fun, and Senor Frogs is also good in the late evening.  But there are bunches of them.  You can take a nightclub "tour" and hit several of them all in one night.  The price of the tour will include your cover charge, and sometimes covers a drink or two at each spot.

Keep an eye on the hurricane predictions, but things have usually settled down by late October.  August and September are the biggest hurricane months.

Check out some of the excursions, too.  We went to Isla Mujeres, which is a cool island.  We did the dolphin swim out there at Dolphin Discovery and it was very fun.   There are also excursions to the ruins (Chichen Itza and Tulum), and places like Xel-Ha and XCaret are supposed to be really neat.
