  1. you want a hamster, a guinea pig, and a gerbil??

wow, i would settle with a gerbil.

and yes hamsters do have an odor but as long as you keep the cage clean it isn't as bad. The odor isn't bad enough to not get one.

  2. i have gerbil myself and he dosent smell at all

  3. Different hamsters have different levels of odor. My parents didn't want me to get my first hamster because they thought they smelled really bad, too.

I have a roborovski dwarf now and they do not smell too bad at all. I occasionally open the window, and i have something called All Living Exit Odor. You hang/stick on this on the side of the cage and it removes some of the urine odor that is released. If you don't think it works, there are products out there that help elminate the odor before he goes to the bathroom. You simply put a couple drops in his water/food and it'll work. Good luck, hamsters are very cute!

*Remember, cleaning his cage once a week is the most simple way to get rid of the smell.

  4. Gerbils don't smell near as bad!  They are cleaner, more active and they don't bite like hamsters

  5. There are a couple different ways to keep the smell down, first you can make sure you get a kind of bedding that absorbs odors, and make sure that you change the bedding often.  You can also get a dust bath for your hampster, like cinchillas use, that will help keep down their actual smell.  There are plenty of things you can do but the special bedding along with changing it more often will be a bit more expensive.

    Good Luck!

  6. No hamsters dont smell bad at all its only the cages, but that's only if you dont clean them. The way I would convince my parents to get a hamster would be...tell them that you learn to be responsible with a animal,or say you wanted one sooooo so badly it worked for me :)

  7. Well put it this way.. if they smelled that bad, My kids wouldn't have had all the ones they had.   No the hamsters do not smell.  If you let the cage go too long without changing it, it will smell.   My kids cleaned out their cage once a week for one hamster in the cage, more then one then every 4 days or so.

Its not too bad.  If you think you are responsible enough to care for one and WILL change the cage, then talk to her about it again.

Trust me, I am very sensitive to smells and my kids hamsters were fine.  AT one time we had 10 in one cage !!  ( one had babies).

  8. GET 2 RATS! they are smarter, cleaner, cuter than hamsters! they can also learn their names and come whe you call! they dont stink! only if the cage is dirty!

and get a cage and not a tank! the tanks dont have good ventilation and can kill them! give them plenty of room to climb!

    good luck! ♥♥

P.S. if you have any more questions about rats please email me!

  9. I've never noticed them smelling and my daughter has about 6 or 7. What she did to convince me was :

    1. She'd prove to me that she had done lots of research on how to look after them / problems etc.

    2. She would be responsible for looking after all their needs. ie feeding/watering/playing/(buying?)/clean...

    3. We could afford to look after them (budget?)

    4. She'd keep them in the bedroom (away from me).

You need to maintain your interest for quite a long time so your mum won't just think it's a phase! Don't bug her all the time though unless you will get a NO!

The important thing to ensure they don't smell is to clean them out regularly then there is absolutely no problem.

    Hope my tips help.

ps You can also tell her that she won't be expected to take them out for walks in the rain as you have to with other pets!

  10. hamsters dont smell, they clean themselves all of the time. the only thing that smells is there cage if you dont clean it often because they p**p and pee alot (in there cage). and make sure to always never forget to fill there bowls of food and give them lots of water they drink and eat alot!! if you want to convince her you should say that youll do everything for the hamster and your mom wont have to do anything for it, except for love it which both of you should do!! HOPE I HELPED!!!!
