  1. yes try your feed store thats were i get mine from.

  2. We are located in the South US. last year we had a major draught here. Hay was pretty much non-existant. We had to ship in hay from Canada. Great quality hay and the price wasn't as bad as you'd expect as the actual cost of the hay was much less than what could be found around here...and it was extremly poor quality "draught hay" which is never good.

I can't recall the number of the man we purchased from but I oriniginaly got it online from a Google Search. We ordered one whole 18-wheeler load and it was sold by the ton but it amouted to around 650 square bales. Very good quality Tifton/Orchard Grass Mix.

Before I went that far though I'd try contacting local area horse people. Get out the phone book, call Vet Clinics and Farriers listed and ask them. Vets and farriers between them, pretty much know all of the local area horse people and keep up with what is current.

If that doesn't work ask around at your feed dealers. Most of them have large contracted loads hauled in. Tell them your situation and ask for their contact that they are purchaseing hay from. Tell them you can't buy from them due to the large amount needed. Also ask around at any local large barns, most of them get their hay delivered by 18-wheeler loads just like the feed dealers that resale it.

Between those four sources you should be able to find the amount of hay you need but perhaps not all from the same location but sometimes you have to take what comes. Also you might have a hard time getting it all second cutting on short notice. Around here the second cutting hay is usually all reserved and paid for before it's ever cut.

  3. Go to your local tack shop/feed shop/other people that you see own horses and stop by and ask for references.  In all honestly, if you are that desperate, if you have people that are in your area drop by and just explain this and ask where they purchase there hay.... might be a little awkward at first but most people are happy to offer advice! Good luck!
