I need Help with Mario Kart Wii...?

On mario kart wii, there is an item that you can use. Its the golden mushroom. I think that even though you have it and you dont use it, it will run out in a certian amount of time but my dad thinks the opposite. I tried to prove it but now i cant even get one,, does anyone have any experience and know the answer? Please Help :P Thankyou for Looking :D

The golden mushroom can only be used if you are in any place between 6-12. The possibilities of getting the GM is 0% if you are in places 1-5. But the percent raises when you are in 6th place to 12th place. So if you are to be in 12th you have a more likely chance to have a GM item. Also you might get a bullet bill or Star.

If you use it one time or more then stop using it then it will disappear.

But if you don't use it all and hold it then it won't.

You have a limited amount of time to use a Golden Mushroom. If you don't use it, or stop using it, it will disappear after a short time period.
