Question:

I need Help with my Hard-drive Formatting?

Everytime I try to Reformat my Extra Hard-drive, it becomes "Not Accessible" because the "Parameter is incorrect". I have tried over and over again.

This was used before me, then it was cleared and I am trying to Partition it and stuff. Everytime I finish, it says Healthy etc. but it had said it had encountered an error.

Then when i double click on it, it says it is not accessible.

HELP!?!?!?

THANK YOU SO MUCH

  1. You left out some very imp details like: what Os you use, what you are using to partition the drive.

(Assuming that the Drive is working!)

    Anyway:

You can try using the diskmgmt.msc (start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc) as admin, and formatting there.

    If it doesn't work, then:

You need to restart and try partitioning in safe mode(Press f8 at the before windows boots).

    On linux it's simpler:

Simply run gnuparted (after un-mounting (umount /place/where/drive/is/mounted) it rarely fails.

    On OpenSuSe:

Yast can do it fast and easy without a manual unmounting:

    If all else fails:

Run a live linux os with a partitioner:

and follow the linux instructions above.
