I need PAL and NTSC DVD recorder/VHS player?

Here's the Deal....I am from the US, but currently in Qatar. So my issue with the whole PAL and NTSC thing. I need a DVD recorder/VHS. But has to be fairly priced.

**I need an unit that will play NTSC VHS tapes from back home (I know it's old school.)

**But also be able to record onto DVDs from both NTSC and PAL.

I currently have PAL TV here in QATAR, but when I go home I want to be able to use it with NTSC TV there too with not problems except for having to get a converter. So I need it to be fully functioning in both places.

I would think the reason you haven't got an answer yet is because it will be hard to find such a machine that also offers quality. One thing you need to keep in mind is whether or not you would be able to have the machine fixed in Qatar if you have a problem with it.

There are decent PAL/NTSC DVD recorders and there are good PAL/NTSC vcrs but I've never seen a combo unit worth buying.

If you want to record TV shows, I'm not sure it is worth the expense of a dual format DVD recorder. I think I would go with a better quality dual format player to view DVDs with and do the recording on a vcr.

With the vcr you have to make sure it will play on whatever tv you have. I am not an expert as far as vcrs are concerned but from what I understand, a lot of the multi format units only work on one format of TVs with a converter between the VCR and TV.

Last but not least, make sure that whatever you buy is both 110/220 volts and 50/60 hz.
