  1. What is the purpose of a swashplate in a rotor control head?

  2. Being an old helicopter type you can ask:

What are the four forces acting on a helicopter?

    1. Lift

    2. Drag

    3. Thrust

    4. Weight

    (Same as any airplane)

    What is translation lift?

    What caused dissymmetry of lift?

    What is blade flapping?

    What is auto rotation?

What does the collective pitch control?

What does the cyclic pitch control?

    What’s ground effect?

    What is gyroscopic precession?

What is a fensetron?  Answer antitorque rotor

What is a NOTAR system?  Answer alternative to the antitorque rotor.

What is a rigid rotor head?

What is a semirigid rotor system?

What is a fully articulated rotor head?

    What is a teetering hinge?

    What is a pitch horn?

This should keep you busy for a while.  All the answers are in FAA Rotorcraft Flying Handbook FAA-H-8083-21.

  3. The blades on the helicopter main rotor are actually wings, but can change angle cause more lift, or decease in lift. That is controlled by a collective. When the angle is increased, there is more lift. Then there is cyclic control, which tilts the rotor and causes forward, back, or side to side motion.

The tail rotor keeps the helicopter from spinning, and is used like a rudder. It also has a way to angle the blades to allow for the tail to be moved from side to side in flight.

This is just the very basics. I hope it helps.

Sorry left out...you can make questions out of this info.

  4. Why do you need an anti-torque system in a helicopter? and how is it controlled?
