  1. the best you can do is just go to a book store and buy SAT prep books and practice and if you think you are some what ready then take it this year or next year. but personally i would take it this year because the earlier the more you know what youre doing later and you can be ahead of other people that are waiting to take it later. good luck tho!

  2. the earlier the better. if your raw score doesn't turn out that great you could have practiced more this year.  and you would worry about it by the time you're a junior which is already a crucial year.  take it now, when your courses aren't as hard and you have more time to study like in the summer etc.

  3. NO WAY take PSAT if u take the real SAT then it counts...go and get tutor i mean unless you are a real smarty then ok whatever!!!

  4. I think that your father's on the right track.  In fact, I would recommend that you take it seriously this year as a freshman. Get a test prep book or two and work through it, then take the SAT next semester (maybe January or whenever you feel most comfortable).

I always, always, always, recommend that people start taking the SAT early on and space their testings out by a year or so.  The SAT is all about developing the skill sets necessary to take the test and do well on it, so it's best if you start early.  It also takes the pressure off of later years; when everyone else in my grade was stressing out about college applications and standardized tests, I was already sitting comfortably with a score that was good enough to get into the Ivy League.  That's because I took the SAT once as a freshman, once as a sophomore, and once as a junior (and by the last time that I took it, I didn't really even need to study anymore because I had put in that time earlier).  I even took it once in seventh grade and once in eighth grade (the advantage to taking it as a middle schooler was that it doesn't go on your permanent record, but starting February 2009, that doesn't really matter anymore).
