What is an equilibrium? Describe some of the different types of equilibrium that exist in nature.

  1. Equilibrium is the condition of a system in which competing influences are balanced.

    - Equilibrioception, the sense of balance present in humans and animals.

    - Genetic equilibrium, theoretical state in which a population is not evolving.

    - Chemical equilibrium, the state in which the concentrations of the reactants and products have no net change over time.

    - Solubility equilibrium, any chemical equilibrium between solid and dissolved states of a compound at saturation

There are thousands, but generally speaking, it refers to a balancing point.  A few examples would be when the death rate of a particular species equal the birth rate.  Also, when a species exploits a resource at the same rate as it is replenished.  An example of this may be fox eating 10 voles a week in a particular area, and this area receives 10 new voles a week.  These are ecology based answers, my expertise.  I hope they help.
