  1. ►Multiplication table of nine.

    9x0=0

    9x1=9

    9x2=18

    9x3=27

    and so on. All the results of the table of nine add to 9.

    example 9x3= 27  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚—„ 2+7=9

  2. Ten Pin Bowling

    Draw ten circles on the board like ten pin bowling skittles are set up.

    Children choose numbers from 1 - 20...write these in the circles.

    Roll a dice three times...

    Write the numbers on the board...eg:  6, 4, 1

    eg:  if there is a 10 in the circles...children can say 6 + 4 = 10 x 1  (You can make children use all three numbers or just two)

    Children then have to use any operation (+, -, X or /) to knock off a pin.....children need to aim for a strike....

    If they get stuck...roll the dice again and try again until all the pins have been knocked off....

    My class love it and when the children know the games well enough they can run the game themselves

  3. Do flashcard races with them. The second grade classroom I went into this year used to do those all the time before the bell would ring, or just whenever the teacher needed something to do for a few minutes!

    Just get some flashcards with either addition,multiplication, or whatever they are working on. Then call up 2 people to challenge each other. Hold up the flashcard and the first student to say the correct answer wins and gets to select another student to challenge. (make sure all of the students get a turn)

    The kids really seem to enjoy this and it is a quick/fun activity that you can do whenever you have a few minutes to fill. Also it doesn't require any preparation or a lot of materials. :)

  4. Who Wants Pizza?

      All the children are going to share the pizza. We will cut enough pieces so each child can have one, and the pieces should all be the same size.

    In math, we call each piece a fraction of the whole pizza.

    How to Make a Fraction

    Take an object like the blue box.

    Divide it into equal parts.

    Let's color one of the parts red.

    Now we can write the fraction of the box that is red.

    1

    4 = red part

    total number of parts
