My OS files on my Dell Dimension have been corrupted ( I have the BSOD) and I need to back up my files. The Dell rep that I chatted with said that they're having a "GREAT DEAL" and suggested that I go with their 750 GB for $178 which includes taxes. I have no idea if that's really a good deal - or if I even need to go with Dell at all. Any suggestions or input? I'd really appreciate it.

  1. No. 500GB is huge and sells for considerably less. Anything over 500GB in my opinion is overkill, and the technology for these huge drives is new and untested by time. Normal people don't have that much data anyway. I'm running two five year old Western Digital HDs so I tend to think they're a good product.

And no, that's a terrible price. This 500GB external is only $97.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

  2. If they're offering that size drive for that price I'd go for it.  If you actually had a problem, hard drives are one of the easiest things to get either the seller or manufacturer to replace, even years after the purchase.

  3. Depends on how much data you have. I would search amazon or something for a external drive. For backup software search google for syncback its a free program that backs up data for you. I love it. I have a 500 external drive for backs up. It backs up my 320GB internal drive. Its perfect for me. Big enough for me to have two back ups on there.(Which I generally have. One by Windows back up software, other by syncback)
