I need a DAN Doctor in Dayton, Ohio. Does one exist?

My son has several develomental delays and State services for early intervention in Dayton are almost non existant. My son's doctors are so focused on his other health issues, that they are not addressing his delays. I also think his delays aren't addressed because doctors are not always versed in developmental areas. My son has what appears to be some shades of autism, but I need a specialist to evaluate him. Please help.

  1. There are 15 DAN docotrs in Ohio. Go to Defeat Autism Now website and you can browse by states.

Keep in mind, DAN doctors do not necessarily diagnosis. They can be extremely helpful if you prefer a biomedical approach for treatment of developmental disabilities.

For a thorough diagnosis, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a developmental pediatrician (not a general practice pediatrician).

    Best wishes!

  2. DAN doctors are not generally diagnosticians.  They specialize in using alternative treatments to help improve the symptomology of autism.  In some cases (fewer than 10%) this leads to what appears to be a "cure" but autism has no cure...the symptomology simply improves to the point where it is not noticeable.  If you are unsure about your son's developmental issues, I would suggest being referred to a developmental pediatrician first.  Once you have a diagnosis, you can then contact a DAN doctor to discuss possible treatments.  Keep in mind however, that if your son has other health issues, some of the DAN protocols may be incompatable with his current treatments.  Also, most DAN visits and treatments are not covered by insurance, so you will be responsible for the entire cost.

  3. www.autism.com is the website for the Autism Research Institute in CA. There you will find a list of DAN doctors across the country
