I've got a 29 year old car which has been stored for 9 years. I went to get it registered and found it is going to cost close to $500 due to the fact it had never been registered as non-operational. Is there any other avenue I can take or am I just basically... well....screwed? I live in Southern California if that makes a difference.

  1. Contact a group that has/shows antique cars.

  2. this may or may not help but as of 25 yrs a car is considered a collector and subject to different rules

however this may make it more expensive to insure...good luck

  3. I had a vehicle that sat for 4 years and I had to sign an affidavit stating the vehicle had not been driven during that time and I didn't have to pay back taxes on it. This is in AZ.

  4. You could look  into titling it in another state. They won't care about the fees from CA.

  5. you might be able to put in in your spouses name, like a familey transfer.
