I need a PDA for school?

Question

I need a PDA for college. I don't know anything at all about them but I am very computer savy. I just never saw the need or use for one until I got to college. Now I want one that can do some of the following things...

> Keep Phone #'s & Addresses

> Keep dates & Appointments (A Scheduler)

> Keep Memo's or notes in a seperate section

> Maybe online capable - but not necessary

> Mp3's & Video - Not necessary but a +

> Long lasting life (Battery-Life & Overall) is a MAJOR FACTOR

Any recomendations would be great!

I would with a windows mobile device. You can create and edit word docs and power point on the go. It has saved me alot of time on trips down time waiting for my plane and all. You can do the same with a BlackBerry but you need to email or have some email you what ever you are working on. Once your done you need to email it back. With windows mobile its just a matter of syncing it with your PC with Microsoft word on it. I have a AT&T Tilt and its great. It has a full keybored and Wifi. I have a 4GB MicroSD card in it. Its more than enough space for my music and college work for me. AT&T does offer Blackberry connect email service for the Tilt. With that you can get instant email with Blackberry connect service just like a Blackberry but better with all the things you listed above. you should consider the new iphone thats coming out july 11. It does all of htat plus its a phone. that wasy you only have to carry one thing and its small to fit in your pocket. has mp3

u need a blackberry, my sister has one and she charges it once a week and it lasts through the  whole week. you can get internet on them to. the blackberry curve is really slick and the blackberry pearl is also nice.

they have some good PDAs at WAL-MART for about $20 i was goint to get one then i got talked out of it by mu little sister. too bad for me but i guarantee its good.

Yes, the Tilt is one amazing device. HOWEVER, it's not one fit for a student. It has high-class document editing and Internet connection (and a 3.2 MP camera) that might seem useful but really aren't for the practical student. Chances are you already have a laptop or access to a desktop (in your dorm, perhaps) so the document editing functions wouldn't really be as beneficial.

It looks to me like what you need the most is things that you'd find in an organizer or PDA. Palm devices are notorious for their PIM (personal information management, I believe they call it) capabilities. It's very accessible and easy to use. Many I know have become addicted to their Palm and it's user friendly menus. If you want to merge your PDA with a phone then you can step it up to a Palm Trio. They are bulky beasts but do a lot for you in return.

  If you don't want to suffer the massive weight and dimensions of the Treo models, you can opt for a Palm Centro. Personally, I'd choose RIM's BlackBerry Pearl any day of the week. It's a sleek and fashionable smartphone that comes with reliable BB service as well as any and all PDA-like functions (such as a contacts, calender, to do list, etc). The pearl also has a 2 MP camera that is video capable as well as a music player.

  Oh, and a note about battery life. Devices w/ windows Mobile are notorious for sucking on your battery because most of the time programs continue to run in the background (unless you remember to turn them off--"kill" them, as the user guide states so eloquently). Palms and BlackBerry don't have this issue as their operating systems are fairly rock-solid and have run the test of time. And my saying this has nothing to do with the fact that I hate PC's...and that I own a Mac. Absolutely nothing.
