I'm looking for a base cream that I can add various oils and herbs to. It should be unscented and quite plain, like a vitamin E or aloe one, does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. Hi,

You can buy unscented lotion at online store. Usually some of them are already add vitamin E so you just add the essential oils.

  2. Aqueous cream is a light, non-greasy moisturiser that provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface.

Its very cheap available from Boot behind the pharmacy counter under £2 for 500g

I use it as a base for adding essential oils

you could also try plain almond oil also available at Boots and very cheap

    Good Luck

  3. You could make your own. Use 3/4 ounce beeswax, shaved, 1 cup vegetable oil (avocado, grape seed, olive, almond), 1 cup water. Heat the wax and oil in a pot just until wax is melted. In a separate pot, heat the water until just warm to touch. With electric mixer in the water, very slowly add the oil mixture in a thin, steady stream while blending on medium speed. The concoction should begin to solidify when 3/4 of the oil-beeswax has been added. At this point you can start adding your essential oils. Keep adding oil-beeswax until the mixture is too stiff to add any more or until all the water is blended in. You will have a thick, smooth cream. Use a rubber spatula to pour the cream into wide mouth jars while it is still warm. This has at least a 6-month shelf life. It will keep 3x as long if refrigerated. You can also add 8 drops grapefruit seed extract or 400 IU vitamin E per ounce to extend shelf life.

Or you can buy unscented lotions and creams at the health food store. I've used Mill Creek, Derma E and Jason Naturals.

  4. I used milking cream which I bought from a vet and added Vitamin E oil, aqueus cream, rosewater and witchhazel. Mixed all together (sorry I can't remember the quantities). I use it as a moisturizer. Much, much cheaper than the shop bought ones which have vit e. Lasts a long time, too.

  5. You could just use the aloe vera gel (100%) and mix what you wanted to create.  aloe vera powder seems like that takes away the properties of that product changing it to a powder.

there are various oils available, especially from a massage supply shop, health food store.  there's vitamin E oil (the highest I.Us willing to pay for), sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, olive oil, the list goes on.  all of these are unscented and are designed for to be mixed with essential oils.  basically where ever you've purchased the essential oils from usually have the oils nearby.

    unsolicited information:

Too bad you don't live in the Lafayette, La area. We have this Vitamin Plus store with exceptional low prices.  I think they keep their costs down because they don't accept credit cards and pass the savings of c.c. fees to the customer.  Debit cards accepted.
