I need a home made biscuit recipe that ******DOES NOT NEED SHORTING***** I do not have the money to buy shorting. I do not know anyone who has vegetable shorting. I can not afford to buy shorting. But want to make some biscuits for dinner tonight. I have everything but shorting. Is there a biscuit recipe out there that DOES **NOT** call for any type of shorting? Thanks!!

  1. you can use butter or margarine instead

    POP'S SWEET POTATO BISCUITS

    16 oz.cooked mashed sweet potatoes

    1 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup water or 2% milk

2 1/4 cups southern buttery biscuit mix

    1/4 tsp allspice (if desired)

Peel and cook sweet potatoes, set aside to cool. Mix together sweet pototes, Brown Sugar Biscuit mix , and water or milk. Combine ingredients thoroughly. The mixture should be moister than regular Biscuits. Flour table. Roll biscuit mix to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 1 1/2 inch cutter or a wine glass. Place on a greased sheet pan.

Bake in a preheated oven @ 350 degrees for 17 min. This mixture does not allow the biscuits to rise much. Its good to have a timer to let you know when they are done, so not to over cook. Serve with Fresh Butter or Land of Lakes sweet Cream. Also very goot with Sauage Patties.

    CHEDDAR CHEESE BISCUITS

    2 cups bisquick baking mix

    2/3 cup milk

    1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

    1/4 cup butter, melted

    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Heat oven to 450. Mix baking mix, milk, & cheese until a soft dough forms; beat vigorously for 30 seconds. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto an ungreased cooking sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Mix butter & garlic powder. Brush garlic mixture over warm biscuits before removing from cookie sheet. Serve warm. Makes 12.

    Serving Size: 4

4 tablespoon margarine cut in pieces

    2/3 cup milk

mix everything together, roll in flour about 1/2 inche thick.

preheat oven, and bake till done about 15 minutes more or less, just keep checking them.. Oven should be set at 375 degrees.
