  1. If your computer has an S-Video jack, use that.  I imagine it does if it is a new computer.  It is one single cable that carries the audio/video signals and is superior to anything else.

  2. If your computer has an HDMI connector you might be able to use an HDMI cable for that purpose.  HDMI would carry HD video and surround sound audio on one cable.

However, if you don't have HDMI but have DVI, you could use a DVI to HDMI cable.  DVI only has the capability for the HD video.  You would need at least red and white RCA for audio or a digital output cable  (coaxial or optical) for surround sound.  The only other type of cable that could tranfer HD video would be component video cables (Red, Blue, Green RCA cables) but I'm not familiar with any computers that have that type of connection.

s-video and composite video (yellow RCA) can only support 480i.

  3. This is going to depend on the outputs on your computer.

Some higher end video cards support HDMI out, but this is only for video.  Otherwise, component video will transmit a HD signal, but not many video cards support this.  Many cards support S-video, but this doesn't support HD.

For audio, you'll need to run separate cables from your audio card.  Again, this depends on your computer.  Some audio cards support optical audio or digital coax as an output, which you can use to connect to your receiver.  If your computer doesn't support these, then you can always get a mini-jack to RCA adapter cable from Radio Shack that would allow you to connect your computer's headphone/speaker jack to your TV or Receiver's stereo inputs.
