I need a career change. Can you help with some ideas?

Right now I'm an administrative assistant doing municipal planning. I love being organized, almost to the point that I'm anal. However, I would like something more physical. Whether it's outdoors, or just not sitting at a desk all day. I'm very smart, and graduated magna *** laude with a degree in IT. I just don't love the IT opportunties out there. I'm willing to get a masters or additional training for something new. I tend to rather work by myself than work with others. I could even deal with not talking to anyone all day. Can you help me brainstorm? I'd like to earn over $50K a year.

  1. Well, what do you want, to do something you will enjoy doing, or earn lots of money?

  2. I just bought two books that may help you.  I'm a Systems Administrator looking to change careers, as well, BTW.

Lastly, here's a great online test to take and find out what you're suited for.  I did it recently and it was pretty informative.  It gave me a lot to think about, anyway. (You have to register but it's free)

Good luck in your search.  I wish you joy and happiness.

  3. The salary is the hard part. Maybe a Research Assistant, onsite or field claims adjuster, documentary assistant (something outdoors or nature) or Environmentalist.

Other choices-----Work with the Parks and Recreations Department possibly as even a Ranger, or something with the wildlife department perhaps.

  4. maybe do a lawn landscaping business or do real estate because you get out of the office and you kind of are independent.  or you could try and be a salesperson although i would hate that.
