  1. My first gun was a mosseberg 500.  I bought it about 7 years ago and I've been extremely happy with it.  It cost $300 but it came with a smooth barrel with a mid bead and a slug barrel.  Also it came with three choke tubes.  Between the three choke tubes and the extra barrel you can hunt just about anything you want.  It shoots great and I love the gun.  I just catch c**p from my friends that its not a more expensive gun like a Remington or the Benelli.  However I out shoot them when we go shoot clays.

  2. get a remington they're cheap & realiable! about $200

can't ask for much perfomance when buying cheap!

  3.   For a real reliable and accuarate shooter the Mossburg 500 can be got used for a little as $50 I got one for that, It can have a foldign stock added legaly, as long as the barrel is at least 18" long. You can even add a pistol grip for a few dollars more. Very cheep yet it works, others are cheep but don't work when you need them. I repaired them for 8-years that should say something.

  4. Theres cheap and then theres cheap....  I dont know much about the H&R pump your looking at but do know they are made in China..... I prefer to keep jobs here in the USA..... An excellent shotgun is the Mossberg 500 pump.... A new one depending on the model is around $250 on up. And since hunting seasons near the prices can be lower with sales at the big box sporting goods stores.... Mossberg is an excellent value....

  5. If you stick with 20 and 12 gauge shotguns, your shells will be a lot cheaper. You can probably find a good used remington 870 or mossberg 500 in either gauge for around $200. You can get a new NEF single shot for under $200. If you look online for gun auction websites, you can find single shot used shotguns for under $100, but you have to add in shipping and transfer fees, usually no more than 50 or 60 dollars.

A single shot Rossi 12 gauge for $75 , nice wood stocks too.
