  1. See the link below for how to order a tax return transcript from the IRS....it will take about 2 weeks from the request to get to you.

    http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0...

(Note - you should keep all records pursuant to your filing for 5 years)

  2. If you have access to a fax machine - you may be able to call the IRS and they may fax it to you (this seems to depend on who you are talking to)  The fax needs to be in a fairly private area, as they will send it to you in the next few hours, and they don't want to fax your tax stuff to a general office fax where anyone and everyone can see your tax information.

You may want to go to www.irs. gov and fill out the 4506T form before you call so that you have all the information that they will want.   If you e-filed your return, getting a transcript should be no problem.  However, if you mailed your return, the return may not yet have been processed so that they can access it with the transcript program.  The IRS is updating their computer systems - so some parts update daily while other parts may take months to get the data input.

You should keep a copy of your tax returns on file for 3-7 years (depends on who you talk to!)  I recommend getting a colored file box that you can use to capture and store all of your tax return data in.  If you have a tax preparer do your return, they should give you a copy.  If you do your return on line, you should print out a copy for your records.

  3. Even if you had a copy of your tax return the hospital doesn't have to accept it because it is not proof of filing.  The hospital or any loan, student aid office need proof of filing from the IRS, go to your local IRS office and request a Return Transcript it contains all the information you filed on your federal income tax and accepted by IRS.

IF you can't go to the local IRS office call IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-829-0922 and request the transcript.

If  you are at a location where there is a fax machine you can request the transcript  to be faxed but IRS faxing procedures are:  you must stay on the line until you receive the fax and acknowledge receipt.

  4. You did keep a file copy, didn't you?

  5. you have 2 options if you had some one do them for you then you can contact them they are required to keep all the documents like that for 7 years. or you can contact the irs and ask for that years transcripts
