As a class project I am going to the zoo and I am stationed at the bear exibit, what kind of lesson or educational game can I teach them or play with them, it doesn't just have to be about bears but it needs to be educational.

  1. Depends on how much time/how much room you have.

You can show pics of bears and have children figure out where they live.

You can talk about what an omnivore is and have students try to list foods bears would eat (remind them that brown bears live in or near forests--what would they eat?)  If time permits, make a short chart with the headings herbivore, omnivore, carnivore.  Don't forget people.

Discuss how bears move--they can run if needed but usually don't.  This turns into a quick lesson on predator/prey.  Bears don't really fit in EITHER category, so they don't HAVE to run to eat.  They catch fish; you don't need to run to do that.  Sometimes they'll eat small mammals or carrion, but not always.

If you have more time, you can cut colored construction paper and put them all over the room.  Each color corresponds to something bears eat.  Each child must get one of each color, and they must lumber like a brown bear to get it (cuts down on running.)

    Red: berries

    Yellow: honey

    Gray: fish

    Brown: nuts

    Blue: water

    Green: other plants or roots

(you could have one for meat, but I'd stop there.  You can leave out honey.  The other ones make up the bulk of the diet.)

For older kids, you could tell them they don't have to get ALL the colors, but must include 1 water, 1 protein (gray or brown) and 1 fruit/vegetable (red or green.)

  2. try to play a fun game with the kids called guess what bear i am.

  3. interesting facts about bears or just about anything is interesting to me.

  4. Give them a blank venn diagram and brainstorm with them the facts you have taught them...they can and will help you fill in the blanks!

  5. explain the different types of bears..

split them into grps (grp name eg. polar bears)

    and play games..

it would be good if you have pictures of bears and let the kids guess the name and facts abt them..

show videos of how they live..

and giving biscuits which is in bear shapes~ =P
