I need a few idea what to add to make ice cream sauce thicker?

I want to use liqueur, so want to avoid boiling it. I was thinking of something akin to corn starch in function.

  1. Depending on what's in it, it should thicken as it simmers.  If you do want to add some cornstarch, take about 1/2 c. of the HOT sauce out and whisk in about 1 tsp. of cornstarch with a little wire whisk until smooth.  Then whisk that all back into the pot.  Tempering it will keep it from being lumpy.....


  2. Extra sugar will make it thicker. Also sauces like butterscotch or chocolate sauces made with cocoa and sugar will thicken as they cool. The cooler the sauce the thicker it will become. Try placing it a jam jar in the coldest part of your fridge. If you want it to be really creamy and smooth add a little butter. The higher the fat content the smoother the sauce.
