I need a few opinions on this?

I am doing my senior project on how preschool prepares children for further education, and I just need a few opinions on this:

Does home schooling a preschool-aged child have the same effect as if they were in preschool?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. There is no easy answer to your question, because it depends on the quality of the home schooling and the quality of the preschool.  Either can be better or worse than the other.  You would have to consider characteristics of each and comment on them.

However, homeschooling would probably not have the same effect as a preschool since by nature they are different.  But homeschooling can certainly prepare a child very well for school.

  2. i would say sendind a child to pre-school instead of home-school. it prepares children when they get to be in larger groups of children

  3. I have had four kids go through public prekindergarten (starting at four years old), and two go through homeschool at that age (as well as a two year old right now who is doing the same) And yes, that's seven kids, we pulled the oldest four out of school when one was ten, one was seven, six, five, three and one, one was born after homeschooling started.

I have not seen a significant difference in the academic and social abilities of my children when comparing public school and homeschool. So in my experience, YES, homeschooling does have the same affect. I think it has a lot more to do with parental availability than the school setting. All of my kids were bored in prek because they had already master the skills necessary for school, and had already practiced the social settings at home, the library story times, museum trips and Sunday school.

  4. I'd say that preschool has 2 advantages. 1. Socialization. 2. It teaches a child what school is like. Other than that it depends on the teacher and parents as to which is better.

  5. It depends on who is teaching the child, if the parent or tutor has sufficient knowledge on what to teach, then it is just the same effect as if they were in school.

P.S. It is also a possibility that the child will progress more if home schooled because the parent/tutor only gives their focus on him/her, unlike in school, where the teachers are going to teach a lot of students, resulting to limited attention to each student.

  6. As a previous preschool teacher, I would definitely say that sending your child to preschool has a much bigger advantage over homeschooling your preschooler.  Preschool allows a child to learn about socialization and the beauty of doing this at a preschool is that it allows for the child to become social on their own and not under the watchful eye of mom or dad.

Preschool is so important for a child because it allows them to develop confidence and problem solving skills and build relationships so that when they do enter kindergarten they have the behavioral skills to succeed within the school environment.  When a child enters kindergarten it is so important to have these skills because without this foundation, it can make learning very difficult for them.

I have seen first hand the effects of not going to preschool has on a child when they enter kindergarten.  They are already behind on the first day.  Wihtout the these behavioral skills, no learning can take place.

  7. There should be a big emphasis on the social skills that children learn in preschool. This is one of the most important things that comes out of preschool, besides problem solving and thinking skills.  If a child is not socially ready, then when they go to elementary school, they will not be able to understand the academics.  So yes, a child that is home-schooled for preschool could be lacking if they do not have the social skills that are necessary to move on.

  8. yes.  i have 3 kids.  My oldest son went to a private preschool 2 days a week three hours per day.  My daughter didnt attend preschool at all.  My youngest son went to free preschool provided by our school district, normal school hours 8:25a-3pm. for two years.(k3 & k4).  All of my children excelled in kindergarten (my youngest is currently in kindergarten).  I just had a conference my 5 yrs olds teacher, she said he outscored all the other children in testing.  The only difference is my boys both have a fine motor skill problem that effects their  handwriting.  In both of their preschools, writing & using scissors weren't emphasized.  My daughter was home coloring, writing, doing arts & crafts and she has perfect fine motor skills.
