I need a first job any help??

Question

i am 14 and i need a first job am i to young and wasting my time asking this question? most my friends have jobs and they are my age. Even if i have to work in a fish and chip shop. I was going to volunteer at the RSPCA but there were no open positions. Thanks

I would suggest you start off with a job in customer service as this is where the jobs are for people your age and they will used to dealing with young people and therefore will be able to give you some useful training and development.

This is useful to build up your basic job skills, just getting used to having a job, showing future employers of your reliability, showing future employers that you are ambitious (as opposed to others your age who dont bother), and of course... the extra money in your pocket.

Suggest working in places in the following order:

1. Something even remotely related to what you may want to do in the future.

2. Big W, K Mart, Target etc.

3. Woolworths, Coles etc.

4. KFC, McDonalds, Hungry Jacks etc.

When you do get a job, be sure to stay there a while as this will make the first "dent" on your resume and you want to make sure it looks good and portrays you as a reliable person and not a "job hopper" who keeps starting jobs, decides their too hard and quits, this is not a good start to your career. You seem to be a pretty ambitious person so im sure you will be fine. Good luck!
