  1. Its a cheating way but you cant get much better,,,

Bisquick.  they are good all you need is some oil water and a egg (I think)

It never goes wrong and you can use it for pancakes also.

    Best of Luck

  2. These are very good, and pretty easy.

    Frozen Butter Biscuits

    Four cups of all-purpose flour

Two large spoonfuls of baking powder

    Two small spoonfuls of salt

Two sticks of frozen butter, eight ounces

A cup and a half of milk

A sprinkle or two of salt and pepper

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together until they’re evenly mixed. Grate the frozen butter into the dry ingredients. Shred it through the large holes of a box grater or potato grater directly into the flour. Toss gently with your fingers until the butter shards are spread evenly throughout the flour.

Pour the milk into the flour mixture and stir with an upside down wooden spoon to form a dough mass. The handle of the spoon is gentler on the dough. Fold the dough over a few times with your hands until all the ingredients come together. If necessary add a few spoonfuls more milk to help gather up any stray flour. This kneading will strengthen the dough a bit but not enough to toughen the biscuits. It will also help them form a crisp crust when they bake.

Pat the dough out on a lightly floured cutting board forming a loose round shape. Cut into wedges – like a pie - or any other shape you’re in the mood for. Position on a baking sheet; sprinkle on a bit of coarse salt and coarsely ground pepper. Bake for fifteen minutes or so. You’ll know they’re done when they turn golden brown. Enjoy at once with lots of brown butter!

  3. I love my mother's recipe for standard biscuits.

    2 cups sifted flour

3 tblspns shortening or cold margarine

    1 cup milk

    1 tsp salt

    4 1/2 tsps baking powder

Sift dry ingredients together.  Cut in shortening until fine and crumbly.  Add milk and stir until just moistened.  Pat dough out with hands on floured flat surface until one inch thick.  Cut into circles with floured water glass and put on ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown around the edges.

I often add a little garlic powder, parsley and grated cheese to make cheese biscuits.   Or you can add a bit of sugar and they make good sweet biscuits for strawberry shortcakes.

My mom always said that the secret to really good biscuits was to mix a lot before you add the liquid and then to handle the dough as little as possible after you add the liquid.  I've found that to be true.

  4. Our Best Buttermilk Biscuits

    ½ cup cold butter

    2¼ cups self-rising soft-wheat flour

    1¼ cups buttermilk

    Self-rising soft-wheat flour

    2 tablespoons melted butter

    1. Cut butter with a sharp knife or pastry blender into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Sprinkle butter slices over flour in a large bowl. Toss butter with flour. Cut butter into flour with a pastry blender until crumbly and mixture resembles small peas. Cover and chill 10 minutes. Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.

    2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times, gradually adding additional flour as needed. With floured hands, press or pat dough into a 3/4-inch-thick rectangle (about 9 x 5 inches). Sprinkle top of dough with additional flour. Fold dough over onto itself in 3 sections, starting with 1 short end. (Fold dough rectangle as if folding a letter-size piece of paper.) Repeat entire process 2 more times, beginning with pressing into a 3/4-inch-thick dough rectangle (about 9 x 5 inches).

    3. Press or pat dough to 1/2-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface; cut with a 2-inch round cutter, and place, side by side, on a parchment paper-lined or lightly greased jelly-roll pan. (Dough rounds should touch.)

    4. Bake at 450° for 13 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven; brush with 2 Tbsp. melted butter.

Cinnamon-Raisin Biscuits: Omit 2 Tbsp. melted butter. Combine 1/2 cup golden raisins, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, and 1/3 cup chopped pecans with flour in a large bowl. Proceed with recipe as directed. Stir together 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2 Tbsp. buttermilk until smooth. Drizzle over warm biscuits. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Black Pepper-Bacon Biscuits: Combine 1/3 cup cooked and crumbled bacon slices (about 5 slices) and 1 tsp. black pepper with flour in a large bowl. Proceed with recipe as directed. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Feta-Oregano Biscuits: Combine 1 (4-oz.) package crumbled feta cheese and 1/2 tsp. dried oregano with flour in a large bowl. Proceed with recipe as directed. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Pimiento Cheese Biscuits: Combine 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese with flour in a large bowl. Reduce buttermilk to 1 cup. Stir together buttermilk and 1 (4-oz.) jar diced pimiento, undrained. Proceed with recipe as directed. Makes 2½ dozen.
