I need a free version antivirus. please name a good one along with version

i got avast two days back and could update just once. when i tried to update yesterday i got this message. the expiry date is 2006 november. its useless. please suggest one.

I would definitely recommend Avast Home Edition 4.8.12. You might have downloaded your avast from a bad website, or had a trial version.

-Avast is one of the best Anti-Virus softwares there is and has one of the highest virus detection rates of any software, and is definitely better than Avg. Everyone thinks Avg is good just because its wildly popular, though it doesn't have good detection or removal rates compared to Avast. Avira, my 2nd choice is very good to, but not as good as Avast! Avast now includes anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit components. And the best part is that Avast is Free!
