It is for a project in my child development class and I can't think of anything that would be easy to make. EX. a mobile, basketball hoop, matching game, or an instrument were all examples. Please help!

  1. what kind of scraps do you have? With toilet paper rolls you can do Abraham Lincoln hats or groundhogs jumping out of cups.

  2. things around the house... maracas made out of popsicles, beans, and plastic / paper cups.

  3. how about a collage - our kids love to make collages - gather up junk and scraps and let them glue and create to their heart's content

  4. a memory game: take card stock and cut it into squares. find  scraps/junk from around the house. Cut each item in half, and glue each to a square. If the child finds a match, have them talk about the match they made. Is it shiny? (alum foil) rough? (sand paper) what color is it? Do you see this color anywhere in our classroom ect. Always add questions to the activity.

mystery bag: gather items and again, cut each one into two, or find two alike items. Lay 1 set of the items on a cookie sheet, and place all the rest in a pillow case (or small bag) Students take turns looking at the cookie sheet. They can choose one item and pick it up. Let the child feel it, smell it, (explore it basically) then have them close their eyes and reach into the bag. They have to use the sense of touch to find the match, without looking.

    GOOD LUCK!

  5. EASIEST THING EVER!  Take pieces of paper or fabric scraps.  Tell the kids that you are going on an expedition...uh oh!  hot lava from a volcano!  Now they must go across the floor but only touch the pieces of paper to get across.  If they touch the carpet they'll be boiled!  Kids love this and it's super easy. They'll come up with a hundred variations and ask to do it over and over again.
