  1. There is a boarding school called The Grier School in Tyrone, PA.  The school is a full-time girls-only boarding school with most of the students coming from other countries, but there are some students from the US.

Check out http://www.grier.org/ for further information.

  2. Most boarding schools have about the same level of education that you would find at a good private day school. There are a group of very academic boarding schools in the U.S. (they are all in the Northeast), but they are also the most competitive to gain admittance into. The most famous of these academic centers are members of the Tens Schools Admissions Organization, the members are: Choate Rosemary in Connecticut, Deerfield in Massachusetts, Hill in Pennsylvania, Hotchkiss in Connecticut, Lawrenceville in New Jersey, Loomis Chaffee in Connecticut, Andover in Massachusetts, Exeter in New Hampshire, St. Paul's in New Hampshire, and Taft in Connecticut. These are all Co-ed. Learn more about these here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Schools...

The previous schools are not the only academic boarding schools in the Northeast, but they are the oldest and most prestigious. Most of the graduates of these school go to the best schools in the country. These schools have the best financial endowments and this translates into a better atmosphere and education for you. The average boarding school in the U.S. costs $37,300/year, the previous 10 and others like them are in the $38,000-$45,000 range. Visiting their websites and looking at their admissions information with help quite a bit. Most of these schools have an admissions rate of 20-30%, while the national boarding school average is 60%.

I went to boarding school for several years and it was a great experience for myself and many others. I don't know of anyone personally that has had a bad experience at boarding school. The people that did have an issue or problem typically caused it themselves or unfortunately went to a horrible boarding school. These are very rare cases though. For the most part, boarding school is a great experience with a great education. Look through Boarding School Review for more information on individual boarding schools throughout the U.S.: http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/

    Best of luck.

  3. Here's a really good school in Connecticut.
