My car is acting really funny since i drove it from florida last week. I need something new but really cant put that in my budget yet. its a 95 saturn and i think its the alternator thats messing up... i drive it and shut the car off then it wont start... i get jumped and it works fine until i shut it off again.. (everyonce in a while it will just start up, but then then next time i shut it off it wont start)

  1.   It is probably not your alternator is sounds like a bad or corroded battery connection.  As for pulling a battery terminal to check your alternator that used to work but all newer cars will shut off if you try that.

I know Bearcreek in Lavon has a great reputation.

  2. Here is the number of a mobile repair man he will come to you his name is Jim 214-779-3166

  3. Take it to autozone. For free they will run a diagnostics on it and tell you for sure what the problem is.

  4. hello

If your alt is bad one sure way to test is easy start the car disconnect black

cable to battery if the car dies your alt is bad, you can have a diode in the alt

fail and the car won't die  but then it does not charge over 12 volts. the alt would have to charge 13volts or more to charge battery back up you can generally go to a auto parts store most don't charge you to test it.

since your info which Saturn do you have there is a sticker located near the latch on the hood that tells you engine size etc since you did not include that

i can tell you from were i live the range and price of an alternator is for you car 69 dollars to 169.00 i would have to have more info to get right price and part numbers also for most cars the alt is located on top of engine and is very easy to replace i showed my wife whom has zero mechanical skills if she can replace one so could you its quit easy and you could save hundreds in labor

as a former mechanic the reason why i no longer work in the field its a rip off

first of all manufactures put out a book on how much time it takes to do a repair

most mechanics charge that time, like for lets  say brakes the book says 1.7 hrs

i can replace your brakes all around in 20 minutes but i can legally charge you the book price not only the mechanic can buy the same part at discount at the parts store then mark up 200% its a rip off  if i had a picture of your engine compartment i could tell you more sorry i don't live in Texas but then i bet you i could walk you through doing it yourself  one wire disconnect two bolts that simple in/out in less than 15 minutes but they will charge you a lot more do it your self  first the mechanics make is sound hard but its not hard at all and if your is the 69 dollar one do it yourself save your money now your a mechanic also you can check with the Saturn manufacture to see if there are any recalls on the car for the electrical system since you did not include which model you have i couldn't check.

    hope this helps
