I come upstairs to my little room, start playing on the computer. Maybe my room needs some light, so I pull up the blinds and what do I see? About 20-30 ants no doubt!

What is a good ant killer that is natural, organic, and made of common household items?

  1. boric acid, off the shelf, its used as an eyewash I belive.  Just sprinkle it where they travel.

  2. Some tidbits from eartheasy.com:

Place cucumber peels at point of entry

Place mint tea bags, crushed mint, or cloves at active places

Sprinkle cayenne pepper, citrus oil soaked string, lemon juice, cinnamon, or coffee grounds across trail

Chalk across the line, at points of entry, or circling where you don't want them also helps. They can't walk across it.

Ants usually are looking for food and water sources. Mother says Keep your room clean.

  3. I have heard that washing surfaces with vinegar helps keep them away

  4. scoop them up and put them outside. don't kill them. it doesn't make since to care about the earth if you're just going to kill the creatures that god put on it.

  5. Ace Hardware sell stuff that I bought, I dont know how well it works, but it is made with mint which is supposed to ward off ants.

It is the brand Safer, called  Poison-Free Ant Killer, it is on the Ace website

.....Oh shoot, at home products, well as I said mint is supposed to be good, and also use cucumber peels. Just spread them out where the ants are entering your house

  6. sprinkle some boric acid powder around the perimeter where they come in.  it works well for all other bugs, too.  they pick it up on their little feet and take it to the nest.  there are also "chalk" sticks designed for ants and they're inexpensive.  try Home Depot or similar store.   I've also read that a line of vinegar on the perimeter will put them off - they communicate with chemical signals passed from one to the next, letting their pals knows where the goodies are.  vinegar messes with this process.

ants come inside in hot weather to look for water and they love sugar so make sure there's nothing in there to attract them.

  7. This remedy was given to me by an exterminator and it works on most types of ants.  Here's whats needed.  One part Boric acid (borax) one part fruit jelly and one part wet cat or dog food. Mix them together well and place it on or near the ant trails. The ants will take it back to the nest and shortly al that eat it will die.

  8. It depends on if they are protein eaters or sweet eaters. I had fire ants which are protein eaters getting into my bed at night and I'm allergic to them. I don't beleive in killing things either but when my health is at stake it just isn't realistic to catch all the ants and put them outside. I found through trial and error that they hate chili peppers, the hotter the better. I sprinkled some ceyenne pepper on the window sill and haven't seen an ant since. The sweet ants can be killed with instant grits. They take it home and when they share a meal with their buddies the grits swell when they get wet in the ant's stomach and they pop. I've heard the boric solution but haven't used it yet. Now I've got them in my vegatable garden so bad that I can't weed anymore so I'm calling a professional ecofriendly exterminator.
