  1. how about this one:

Rome achieved great glory under Octavian/Augustus. He restored peace after 100 years of civil war; maintained an honest government and a sound currency system; extended the highway system connecting Rome with its far-flung empire; developed an efficient postal service; fostered free trade among the provinces; and built many bridges, aqueducts and buildings adorned with beautiful works of art created in the classical style. Literature flourished with writers including Virgil, Horace, Ovid, and Livy all living under the emperor’s patronage.

  2. Octavian was second only to Julius Caesar in contributing to the Fall of the Republic.  (Besides, perhaps, Sulla)  Octavian was born into the wealthy Julii family.   From there, he lived out his childhood in Italy.  When reaching his manhood, he became pontifex maximus(?) and was soon named heir to Caesar, in his will.  He then paid the plebs a large amount of happiness money (so to speak).  He then defeated Mark Antony at a battle near the Alps (don't know where, someone help?)  Soon after that, he allied himself with Antony and Lepidus (who was soon exiled and cast out of the Triumvirate).  Meanwhile, Cassius Longinus and the famous Brutus had assembled an army to serve their Republican cause.  At the battle of Phillipi, they were defeated by the combined forces of Antony and Octavian.  After that, the alliance between the two continued for another ten years, until Antony's divorce of Octavian's sister and alliance with Cleopatra, which ignited a war.  (This symbolized the clash between traditional Roman values and the "decadent" east)  At Actium, Antony and Cleopatra were defeated.  When Octavian invaded Egypt the following year, they committed suicide.

Octavian's crowning of Emperor and changing his name to Augustus signaled what I consider the true death of the Republic.  His many reforms and building projects transformed Rome from republican to Imperial.

  3. If Octavian created a Imperialistic empire, which became oblivious to surrounding global concerns, a suggested hypothesis could be:  "My research will show that although Octavian ended civil war and brought much Roman internal prosperity, his Imperial obliviousness to surrounding global threats left the Roman empire open to invasion and defeat."

Some of the research of others is cited below for review.

  4. I have no idea about this topic but my friend had a similar assignment and used this thing called www.writemeapaper.com
