I need a good idea for Art Class?

On Monday we are starting clay wind chimes in Arts & Crafts class. They have to have a base and at least 4 things hanging down. I'm thinking about using an African/Safari theme because it fits with my bedroom. I can't figure out where specifically to take that theme. I've thought about animals that live in the African savanna, African masks, a type of tree found in the savanna, the sun, and so on. I don't know exactly what combination of those things would look good or if those things would even be good at all. Plus, even though I'm in Arts & Crafts, I'm not the greatest artist so it really can't be too difficult.

But anyway, any suggestions?

  1. Sun, elephant, lion, moon, mask, star, giraffe - get a coloring book on the African Savannah, to help you with the drawing.  Remember to complete your design on both sides of each piece.  Use at least two colors of slip if you can.

How fun!  You are starting clay wind chimes, so each item might have size limitations.  You might want them to balance so you may want items of approximately the same weight and size.  How about making a base in the shape of the continent itself?  Or a tree of life from which the chimes arise?

    There are wonderful animals on the savanna like lions, rhinos, water buffalo, zebra.  There are great forest animals, too, such as gorillas and okapi.  If you look at the website of museums like the Metropolitan Museum,which is in New York, you are likely to find wonderful African masks, statues, and jewelry.  Even taking a little piece of design from jewelry might be enough to give you a wonderful chime.  You mentioned a tree.  How about the baobab?

    You don't need to be the greatest artist to have a fun time and create something that can will make you smile when you see it.  Enjoy!
