  1. Your camera came with the 18-55mm lens, which is a decent wide angle.... I'd suggest the 28-135 IS USM and the 50mm 1.8... both would be great lenses to bring along on your trip.

Another lens worth looking at is the EF-S 55-250 IS USM lens.

  2. Wide angle lens and look at the u.v. filters.

  3. There's two main ways to shoot landscapes -- you can either try to fit everything that you see in the frame (traditional landscape), or you can zoom in on a part of the landscape to imply the whole. The latter can be a bit trickier, but still definitely do-able with practice.

The traditional route would require a wide-angle lens. If you already have the kit lens for the XTi or another lens that covers the 18mm range, many find this to be sufficient for landscapes. If you do have a lens that goes to 18mm and you're still not getting everything you want, your best bet would be the Sigma 10-20mm (http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showprodu... It runs for about $500; I don't know if that's within your budget, but if it is, it's a fine little lens that'll go ultra-wide. It's also the cheapest ultrawide lens that I know of, besides the Sigma 14mm f/2.8 (http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showprodu... which may not be much wider than the lens that you already have.
