  1. You should try a helmet on before purchasing unless you have had the same helmet and size prior to purchasing a new one.  Sizing charts are only a guide and are really not all that good as far as helmets go.  Your head is a pretty important part of your body and the helmet won't do any good if it doesn't fit just right.  Don't buy a cheap helmet and don't ever buy a used one.

If you think you can buy cheaper online then go try that specific helmet on in a shop and then go purchase it online.  You only have one head so look after it.

  2. Their are size charts online like at ebay so I WOULD buy one online because I bet dozens of people have tried on any one helmet and you have a much bigger selection online you can try ebay they have new DOT helmets that work for 26.00 their not the most comfortable but they work try these websites if you have a good amount of money to spend btosports.com, motoworldracing.com, ridegear.com and motosport.com(my fav)

  3. You can measure your head and get your size. You can also try on at local shop, get the brand name you like and find it on eBay.

  4. You really should visit a motorbike dealership to try helmets on and get one fitted by someone who knows how to fit a helmet correctly.  You should only buy one online if you already know what size is the correct size for you.

  5. There is no such thing as a "race ready" helmet. All types of mx helmets can be raced with.

Just go to your local bike shop and try some on. I wear a Thor Quadrant helmet. It was a reasonable price and it has held up through all of my crazy crashes!
