It's for a science project.

Does dwarfism add an extra 4th chromosome?

Please help!

  1. Here is a webpage showing the karyotypes of a number of people with achondroplasia.  Hope this helps!

  2. Achondroplasia (dwarfism) is a dominant mutation in collagen not an aneuploidy. There is no major chromosomal rearrangement. This means the karyotype is normal.

Here is a site with the disorders mapped onto their respective chromosomes.

The SHOX genes on the X chromosome impact height. There is a deletion that removes one gene copy from the short arm of the X chromosome to produce dwarfism. The deletion is to small to detect with a karyotype.
