I need a good spy ware program?

These are all free! Spyware Blaster, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware. I have used those for MANY years, they are indeed awesome.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

You don't really need a spyware program to prevent pop-ups. Your browser will do this. In IE7 - see Tools/PopUp Blocker. Firefox has the same feature.

If you need to enable pop-ups for certain web sites, you can add these sites in Tools/PopUp Blocker Settings, but still prevent pop-ups for everything else.

If you want to use spyware as an added security measure, it's a good idea. But, it won't prevent pop-ups unless you're running the real-time feature of the product (as opposed to just using it to scan your system). Ad-aware Free doesn't have a real-time scanner last I checked. But, Spybot and SpywareBlaster do.  Spybot real-time slowed down my surfing so much, I took it off. Personally, I run with AVG Free (real-time) and the IE7 pop-up blocker. Don't have problems with pop-ups.

If the pop-ups you're getting are because your PC is already infected, then try running AVG free and Lavasoft AdAware to clean it off. If those don't do it, you can also download and run Spybot. SpywareBlaster doesn't clean spyware once it's on your system (it only prevents spyware from downloading).
