  1. First of all your thesis is wrong, it was not Kaiser Wilhelm II who started WW1, it was the terrorist attack of Sarajevo on the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary so you can blame either Serbia or Austria-Hungary directly; or indirectly Germany, France, Russia, and Britain all equally for not doing enough to avoid the war.

@Thumb down: I think you should go back to school and repeat studies. It is today a historically aproved fact that 'The German Empire' is not more responsible for the WW1 than any of the other participants France, Great Britain, Russia.

Unfortunately all were rather looking to start a war than to avoid it they all thought it would be fast victory and they would be able to settle their differences that way!

  2. I have to support "ME":

The immediate cause of the war was the June 28, 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne, by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb citizen of Austria-Hungary and member of the Black Hand.

First Austria wanted to avoid a war and wanted Serbia to hand over the murderer but to conditions Serbia didn`t want or also perhaps couldn`t accept!

Because the Emporer of Austria-Hungary and of Germany were related, Germany had to support Austria-Hungary!

Another reason was that Germany had trouble with France because these were still pissed of because they lost the German-French war from 1870, Great Britain felt provokated by Germany because Germany was building up their Naval Power and Russia felt uncomfortable because Kaiser Wilhelm II didn`t renovate the reinsurance contract with Russia!

You see, Austria-Hungary was the only choice the German Empire had (Germany was not called Germany at this time, it was called the German Empire)

So Austria-Hungary with Germany (and Italy but they stayed neutral and later run over to the allies) against France, Great Britain, Serbia and Russia in the Beginning! Later almost all over countries just not Switzerland, Finnland, Sweden, Norway entered the war!

  3. i believe that's Wilhelm II

Short answer? Because Grandma Vicki hurt his feelings and Uncle Eddie was more powerful than he.

  4. Hi

I think the user "ME" was 100% accurate.

I am a WWI & II Historian and know these events by heart.

The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand is what sparked WWI. GERMANY did not start the war even though it was blamed for it by many after in the treaty of Versailles.

Again "ME" is accurate!! Deserves NO thumbs down!!

  5. Excuse me?Kaiser Wilhelm did not start WW1.I realize most people have been conditioned to think all European wars are the fault of Germany, but this kind of thing has to stop.
