  1. haha u cant drive!!!!!!!!! jk!!!lol!!

  2. Hate to say it, TomTom is going to charge for map updates, they are not FREE.

The only company I know that will update your maps via WiFI, GPRS is a DASH PND system, although they include the map updates free, the service for the WiFi GPRS is not free.

You can find out more on this link

    http://www.dash.net/product/auto-update....

Since both NavTeq and Tele Atlas have to pay their employees, I don't see free maps anytime soon until the maps and PND someday will be supplemented by advertisements, than and only than the units possibly will have free maps and all the PND will act like our TV and Radio's were we have to suffer through some advertisement to get the free service.

    There is NO FREE LUNCH!

  3. There aren't any GPS receivers from a respectable manufacturer that let you download routeable maps from the internet for free.  Some companies give you get a free map update if a newer map version comes out shortly after you purchase the unit, but that's it.

  4. TomTom is the world leader for a reason, they are the best, there are only two map providers Teleatlas and navteq , teleatlas is owned by TomTom in just recently had been tested up against navteq by a independant study at GPS review and found teleatlas better, now for the plus , the only maker with free map updates and mapshare technology which allows you to make map corrections and share them when you hook up to a computer, and of coarse download them, some of the units come with ,IQ Routes™ technology

    - Advanced Lane Guidance

    - Easy access to traffic information

    - Enhanced Positioning Technology

    -Voice address input

    - Hands-free calling

    - No monthly fees

    - Built-in FM transmitter- how this works is say you want to listen to your MP3's that you have downloaded on your TomTom you can broadcast them on any vacant radio station in you car and when it gives you the next instruction it will mute the music and then resum after the instruction anyway hope that helps ........Ren

  5. Garmin makes a lot of great GPS systems.  But there are others too.  Do you have a BJ's near you?  I just got a circular about GPS systems that they have.  Also, it's a good idea to go to Amazon.com.  Look at GPS systems on their website.  That's a good thing to do because they also feature customer reviews for each and every one of their products.  So, you can see what other people think of any one of them.  I've used that theory for many things that I've bought, including cameras and TV's.  That will be very helpful for you for GPS systems.  Go to http://www.amazon.com and "search" GPS systems.

Hope this helped.  Wish I was getting one!

  6. I got my mom the garmin from radio shak. Most of them you can download updated maps off the internet and you can enter your own too.

  7. Maybe Im looking in the wrong places but I can't find maps for Garmin anywhere on the interenet that are free. If I buy the new maps from Garmin it would cost more than a new GPS. Try a Tom Tom or Navman I know a few people with these and they have no problems.
