Hey guys, I have just gotten a commercail helicopter pilot license, I am Instrument rated, and the school I have been attending has recently bankrupted. Some of you may have heard of this... Sooo, I am not able to get my instructors license at the moment. I've applied for few jobs, and I know it's nearly inpossible for me to get a PIC job, so i also applied for a SIC job in a large helicopter. I need advice!!! What should I do???? 1. I'm gonna assume that there aren't too many options out there. the best is probably going somewhere else to get your cfi and cfii add ons. One other possibility is to get hooked up with an outfit that uses piston powered helis. I know there are quite a few companies that use robinsons and schweizers to do mostly film work for companys shooting events and games around my area. (Philadelphia)

Also, with the minimal amount of hours you will not (harsh, sorry) get any job pic or sic on any heli that requires two crew members. Minimums for those types are usually in the 1000 to 5000 hour range depending on the company

  2. Join the Army. Helicopter school will be a breeze for you since you already know how to fly. I live near an Army helicopter base and these guys, Army and civilian alike, make a ton of money and work just a few hours a day. They live like kings. Once they get out of the Army they work as civilian helicopter school trainers or instructors and make even more money. I know a lot of them and believe me they got it made.

  3. not to be nitpicky or anything ... Its not a license, but a certificate.

Mark: I'm affraid you are still suffering from the misinformation you were fed at silverstate. You wil simply not be able to get a SIC helicopter job with a brandnew certificate. SIC jobs are highly paid and reserved to more experienced ilots. SIC jobs are in large and more complex aircraft, hence the 2 crew requirements.

My suggestion to you is to accumulate at least 1,200 hrs -  I know you stated you cant become an instructor at this time, but this is the route pretty much everyone takes.. at that time you become emplotyable by one of the many offshore oil companies or a low end tour operator.

There are pretty much only 2 job sites you need to know for helicopter jobs

    http://www.justhelicopters.com/employmen...

    and jsfirm.com

Unfortunately it will be extremely hard to place you with a brandnew cert and I assume no or very little turbine experience.

Dont give up..once you find a time building opportunity, there are plenty of jobs for experienced pilots right now and for many years to come.  Often opportunities will present themseves by being in the right place at the right time.

I would definately invest in your Instructors Cert.

    Best of luck to you!
