Hi, for my archeology class, my professor wants me to about central europe during the iron or bronze age. Specifically, a site. Any suggestions? Is there any particular aspect of a group of people, or better yet, a particular archeological site that has tons of info and artifacts and books on so i can research it easily with pictures and background for a 10- 15 minute presentation?

thanx

  1. I recently learned in my English class, that during the Bronze Age, the Ancient Greeks believed that the gods roamed the earth with the humans and it was during the 12th-13th century. It was like a "hippy" time for them, and a wonderful and happy era.

  2. Well, the end of the bronze age is a massive mystery; a series of wars, famines, invasions, etc; pick a site that was around in 1200 and not in 1000 and go from there. Myceanae, Troy, Knossos, etc.

You can also do the Island of santorini; which was mostly destroyed by a volcanic eruption; and dating the eruption has been a huge problem.  its what we call an archaeological lynch pin, b/c if we can figure out when it erupted/exploded- we can match up the level of ash from it in places as far away as Iceland.  But there are 3 disputed dates for it based on various chronologies people have come up with from different sites....

The 'People of the Sea' is also always an interesting one, on group that stands out in Egyptan records (they name each tribe that participates in the 2 attacks) the Peleset is strikingly like Philistines, and Palestine (a standard thing is vowels change, but not the consonants) and were

supposedly resettled by the Egyptians in the south of the levant.

Hit up the library, if its half-decent college; there will be at least a few books on these ancient sites.
