Ok, so i don't NEED one right now, but i just got my reptiles magazine today and it showed all these horrific pictures about sick herps. Also it was saying stuff like, "take it to a vet at least once every 6 months",etc.. But the problem is is that i have no idea how or where i could find one!

Oh, i live around Central, PA... (about an hour away from Harrisburg) idk if that info wuld help... But even a website would be nice..

Plz... For my Ball Python...

  1. I live just outside of Pittsburgh. If I need a vet for my snake, i have 2 choices. One, to go to my normal exotic animal vet (who is only at his office a few times a week)... Or I can go to this local reptile expert who owns a store fairly close to my house. My regular vet just refers people with reptiles to him, he's that good.

You can do the same thing... Look in the phone book for an exotic animal vet or look for a Reptile Breeder/Store in your area.

  2. Look in your yellow pages. There should be lots of listing for vets. One of them should list that they deal with exotics. If not call a few of them up and ask who they recommend.

Then do a google for the candidates and see what you can find out. Yahoo Local is a good place to see what others have said about a place!

  3. Like the other person said, find a herp society in your area and ask them for a good vet.

I wouldn't necessarily go by what is in the yellow pages - at least not that alone.  There are different levels of "reptile vet".  They range from the superb vet with tons of experience that are priceless (I finally found one of these!), the good reptile vet that knows what they're doing and is good for normal stuff (checkups, small wounds, that kinda thing) and the so-called reptile vets that say they know what they're doing but really don't.  I've had vets at all ends of the spectrum.  The lower end when I was younger and didn't realize not all reptile vets are equal.  I'd count more on what other reptile keepers say and who they recommend.

  4. most vets even if they arnt able to treat a reptile will be happy to give you details of one that will. its nice to hear from someone that cares anuf about they reptile to wanna get a vet in advance. most people just seem to leave it till they need one then its often to late, well done.

  5. Contact the “herpetologicalsocieties.com“. for a vet in your city, and state
