I only need to make outbound calls. I don't need any extras. Does anyone know how skype works?

  1. Get VoIP.

Vonage is notoriously bad, they spent a lot of money creating their network, but they didn't spend enough TIME, so they created it in a hurry, so many customers experience a lot of lag time, or even dropped calls.

A good company is Metro United (www.metrouni.com) I have used them for a while now, and not only is their phone service great their customer service is very good (that matters to me). Plus their unlimited plan is $24.95.

Skype is only good if your going to have your computer up and running, as well as the Skype program running. It's not a great solution for businesses, as it can crash, and you can loose a customer.

    Hope this helps!

  2. dont get vonage. i had that and it sounded like a cell phone that was breaking up. i had the worse time trying to get them to do anything for me and could never get a hold of anyone

  3. try the MagicJack...its just perfect for outbound calls....and you can use any old analog phone

  4. I have used Skype for over two years.  It works really well over high-speed Internet.  You can now get Skype Unlimited USA and Canada for $2.95/month.  That's a good deal.

Plus, you can conference call with up to 9 contacts for no extra charge.

My brother's wife uses Skype to call her family in Brazil, from USA, regularly with good results for only 3.3 cent/min.

You just need a good headset with microphone for use on PC's.  Or, you can get a Linksys CIT-400 Skype phone and use with its Skype cordless phone without having to use the PC for calling.  Just plug directly into a router.

  5. if you are getting it for business, I would not use skype bec there is a bit of lag time.  I have never used vonage so I cant compare them.  I recently herd of www.magicjack.com I dont know if its any good but you might consider it
