  1. Look at self catering.  It's a heck of a lot cheaper then hotels or even B&B's.

  2. When I went to Ireland, we rented a car and drove around the country.  There are hotel/B&B passes you can purchase up front, so you'll know what you're paying for hotels in advance, but I've heard it's more expensive that way.  I didn't find B&Bs to be outrageously expensive in Galway.  Book your flight directly into Galway and then arrange for a decent B&B.  They are all fairly nice.  If you are looking for an old fashioned house, it may be more difficult to come by.  The places that were available seemed more modern for the most part all over Ireland.

Good luck...it is an extremely beautiful country.  I would truly recommend a car.  There are some good fly & drive packages that would probably fit your honeymoon nicely.

Don't bother with Dublin.  It's expensive and on the whole, a disappointment.  I loved the Cliffs of Moher and Clonmacnois, though.  I did not get out to the Aran Islands, either, but that is supposed to be amazing.  Galway is very pretty & safe.  You will enjoy it!

  3. Okay there is not airport in Galway the airport you would come into is Shannon.   Galway is an hour away.  You can do an inexpensive honeymoon in Ireland and even in Dublin.

Galway is very very expensive to stay in hotel or B&B but if you dont mind nice and quaint clean and beautiful then you want to stay in Shannon.

If you want to go right before the tourist season which is May it is still a little rainy but beautiful and going into June is spectacular with all the wild poppies and daffodils starting to bloom.

Let me recommend.  Going into Shannon Airport.  American Airlines can get good prices and it would make one stop US and then on to Ireland.  US airways sometimes can make good tickets but they do not go into Ireland until Spring.  If you dont mind going into London that is what it does now.

Find a B& B in Shannon  Avalon is really beautiful and not expensive plus you get a beautiful Full Irish Breakfast spread.  It goes with the room between 35 to 45.00 Euro a night.

Then you can either take Bus Eireen to Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Bunratty Castle is right near Shannon.  I would recommend also that you can hire a driver to take you on a tour it would not cost that much.  45.00 per person to go to Galway or find a cheap tour while in Ireland that does Kylemore Abbey, Connemarra, Bunratty, Galway, and Cliffs and the Burren.

You might even throw in a day in Dublin.

They have great hiking tours that are wow.  Not expensive.  Go to http://www.telstravel.com and email them they will prepare a custom made brochure for you for $25.00 Euro that gives you an itinerary and includes the B&Bs and the prices and train or bus schedules and cost.

If you want to get a car the insurance to Americans is high because of course we do not drive on the safe side of the road.  But make sure you get a AAA international driver permit insurance can be a little cheaper.

    Have fun
