OK.

I had a job for a year & a half at a new & used bookstore.

I started taking lots of days off due to my grandma getting really sick & because I started to hate working there. New management, & everything was unorganized, and it was just not a nice place to work anymore. You could sit there and do nothing, and the managers wouldn't even care, or take the time to notice the next day. Which is kind of scary if everybody just did nothing.

And then I got kicked out of my house, and I didn't want to go in, I was really upset. So, I called in and the manager was a d**k to me, and I cried. He said to come in on my next shift after taking the rest of the week off. So I did, and when I went to go in apparently I was crossed off for the rest of the month. So I got fed up of that place & just quit. Do you blame me ?

I am kicking myself in the butt though, because I should have found another job before quitting.

So I took a few months off leisurely and then thought I needed the money for a few reasons.

a) Necessities

b) Credit Card ( I've been making min. payments on time, but I want to just pay it all off.)

c)Fun things because nowadays it seems you can't have fun or do anything without some cash.

I've been handing out resumes to any place that is hiring, and even some places that aren't. I've had one interview at Shoppers Drug Mart, but that didn't pass, not sure why. I even called after to check up on things.

How can I impress people and get a job ?!

I try calling the places and asking if they'd have a chance to review my resume to show interest. But nothing comes out of it.

I've even gave my resume to the managers in some places, and shook their hand and everything! It seems everyone is against hiring me or something.

I AM a shy person, so is there any ideas or tips I could use that isn't TOO outgoing, but just enough. Or just any thing that could help me after the resume handing outing part ?

Any ideas or help would be radd!

  1. maybe coz the last employer you had didn't recommend you. but just maybe. maybe you can add someone else in your reference list that who knows you well. sometimes they call your previous employer to have background checks about you. and sometimes companies will accept base on character and attitude depending of what position you applied for.. maybe your previous applications doesn't fit in the position you applied for.

and yeah I guess, you find the type of work you are familiar with, like a talent or skill that they can't say no to you.. the type of thing you are good at.. so it will be easy for you to do the job or land a job... and maybe you can find it fulfilling and enjoyable too.

  2. Hi there, if you’re interested :)

In my opinion, there are very good online jobs available. (both part time and full time)  Over the last 4 years I have been working online as a virtual customer service rep for a credit card company. It’s honestly a very easy job---I mainly answer e-mails, add features and address general inquiries.

If I can give one piece of advice though when looking for an online job---NEVER pay a start up fee to join a work at home company or directory. Very few legitimate companies will require you to pay them in order for them in turn to pay you. It defeats the point! Moreover, there are plenty of free sites available! :)

Depending on your skill set---there is a huge range in employment opportunities you might be interested in, both part time or full time—anywhere from data entry and transcription services---to rebate processing---to virtual customer care---to Writing articles/Product reviews to webpage design.

For a list of very good companies and directories that I’ve been successful with and also a guide to avoiding online business scams see:

    and also:

(The companies listed should not charge any start up fees nor hidden fees down the road)

I also make good extra money answering paid surveys. I’ll usually spend a couple of hours a day answering surveys and l make approx $50 a day = $1000-$1500 a month. For the most profitable free sites see:

  3. You seem to be doing things right now, but unfortunately you were very immature on your first job.  You are not getting a good reference from them when prospective employers inquire.  There is nothing you can do about that, but you need to find an employer who will give you a second chance.

Look for a smaller business where the owner might be willing to give you a chance to show you've grown up.  Don't miss a single day of work unless you have a high fever--seriously!

Also look to your appearance.  Employers don't usually take kindly to tattoos or piercings.  You also need to dress conservatively and nicely.  Keep your makeup to a minimum.  Avoid extremes.  Stand up straight.  I know it may sound corny but all these things count.

Once you get a job, start socking away part of each paycheck in a savings account so you can weather a future rainy day.

  4. You could join the reserves for some side cash.  Maybe go to school and learn a trade.
