  1. Jane Austen books aren't set in America, but they are entertaining for the romance category.

Kate Chopin (I just finished The Awakening and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's cool to realize that the novel was originally ripped apart, but later aided in the feminist movements).

    Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.

    Virginia Woolf (British author).

    Sylvia Plath.

There are always the Brontës (also British).

Yes...I hope this helped, because this is all I can think of for now off the top of my head=)

  2. Well, Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, Little Men, and Jo's Boys all fit the bill.

I've always been a fan of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series.  It takes place in Canada, during the late 1800s and the 1900s through the end of World War I.  I've read Rilla of Ingleside, the last book in the series, about a dozen times and I cry each time I read it.

As far as books written recently, I'd recommend anything by author Ann Rinaldi.  Or, just visit one of the bookstore websites likes Amazon or Barnes & Noble and search for "young adult historical fiction".

    Enjoy your reading!

  3. Charles Dickens

    Bronte

C.S. Lewis is actually from the 50's so do the narnia books count for u
