The first link below is a great resource to see what animals are struggling in the former USSR.  Sadly, too many of them are the great cats that are so stunningly beautiful and meaningful to the wild.  Tigers, leopards, even some ocelots.

Seals, bats and some deer are also having a hard time.  On the plant end, true old growth is rapidly vanishing from the older wilderness areas of Russia.  Ash, birch and even some of the traditional walnut trees of the Russian steps have vanished.
