  1. Check out Roussillon "The Red Ocre Village" .Situated in the Luberon.  Roussillon is on a hilltop, in the middle of beautiful countryside.

If you go there stay in the village itself.  It is very small but very cozy. Be sure to stop at a restaurant where you can overlook the valley of lavender fields. Plus there is a great vineyard just at the foot of the hill. And plenty of other places to explore nearby. Some well known books (in English) have been written about this region (Provence). Check them out first.

  2. You're funny.  You should know that Provence is a region, not a city.  So... if you are looking for such specific things as haunted houses (which, by the way, French people don't care about) you should really try to find info about specific cities in Provence.

Aix-en-Provence is beautiful.  Check out the architecture and nightlife.

Marseilles is one of the most well-known ports outside of Bretagne (another French region).

By the way, aren't you aware of the amount of lavender that is produced in Provence or that the older generation speaks Provençal as well as French?

Come on, do a little research and you will find interesting things about the region.
